25.Matariki

Kia ora

This week we learnt about Matariki and all 9 stars in the star cluster. Matariki is a star cluster that was used in the olden days by the indigenous Maori people to predict what’s gonna happen during the year and also to celebrate the Maori New Year!  There are 9 stars in the Matariki star cluster, Matariki, Pohutukawa, Tupuanuku, Tupuarangi,  Waiti, Waita, Waipuna-a-Rangi, Uruangi and the youngest Hiwa-I-te-Rangi. These 9 stars all represent something different and that’s what makes them all unique.

25. Measurement And Conversion

Kia ora

This week from maths we looked at learning how to measure and convert from different forms of measurement like kilos, grams, millilitres and litres. to convert grams to kilos you need to know that 1 kg equals to 1000 grams and 1 millilitre equals to 1000 litres. So to convert Millilitres to grams you have to know they’re equal and to convert kilograms to litres you have to know they’re equal too. In my opinion this weeks activities were relatively easy and fun to do.

25. Behind the lines (Maori Battalion)

Kia ora

This week, we watched an animation called Behind Enemy Lines, which showed the horrors our soldiers had to face during war. The video captured the essence of battle and its casualties, powerfully depicting what happened and how the soldiers might have felt as they moved deeper into enemy territory.

After watching, we chose to write either a piece of descriptive writing or an explanation based on the animation.

If you were in a war, how do you think you would act?

25. The Importance Of Medical Knowledge

Kia ora

This week on Monday kind people from ASB came and taught us about the importance of knowing what to do in emergencies. They taught us what to do in 4 different kinds of emergencies like when someone gets a burn, gets a broken bone, gets an asthma attack or has a stroke. When someone has a burn we need to immediately check what caused the burn so we dont get burnt too and run cold running water for 20 minutes though it may look tempting to pop the blister dont for this could cause even more severe injuries. When somebody gets a broken bone and cant move  you should get something soft like pillows or a rolled up hoodie and place it on the sides of the broken bone.

25.The Cruelty of War WW2

Kia ora

The past couple of weeks I had the opportunity to do work on a topic that I liked and had wanted to research that topic being World War 2. World War 2 was notorious for being a cruel and brutal war with the death count spanning out to 75-85 million deaths. World War 2 was also filled with brutal and corrupt dictators such us Adolf Hitler leader of Nazi Germany and Hirohito leader of Imperial Japan, these 2 figures was the primarily the main reason on why World War 2 started such a as the invasion of Poland. These horrific events in history help us learn so that we cannot make the same mistakes again for if we do we might just take a step backwards and go back to the massacre we once did.

25. Maori Battalion

Kia ora

This week for reading we’ve been looking at the Maori Battalion. The Maori Battalion was a  group formed in NZ in October 1939 to encourage Maori men to fight for their country, the group did so well it even inspired younger people 15 or under to register since they didn’t have documents and it made it easier for people to lie about their age. They were split into 5 groups: the 4 rifle groups containing 125 men and a headquarters group made out of 200 men. Each of them had a captain or major The headquarter group has 6 smaller platoons, anti aircraft, mortars, gun carriers, pioneers and transport so in total they have about 700-750 men fighting.  People were easily persuaded into joining the Maori Battalion because of the benefits they would get when they arrived back

The Benefits included finally getting out of poverty and getting the respect they deserve whilst finally proving the were equal with the (pakeha). I made a DLO about it (digital learning object).

Would you join the Maori Battalion?

25. Kiwi Can Week 2

Kia ora

This was our first week of Kiwi Can after a 2 week holiday I am glad Kiwi Can is back because they teach us valuable life lessons. The language we learnt about in kiwi can was NZ’s sign language and learnt how to say money, thank you, good morning etc. The name of our Energiser was called beat master beat master is a game with 2 roles beat master and the detective. The beat master’s job was to set the beat for everyone to follow while the detective has 3 chances to find the beat master.

Our main activity was to write an acrostic poem using the word integrity. We came up with this.

I: I am an up stander not a bystander

N: Nobody is left out

T: Try your best

E: Earn peoples trust

G: Gain people respect

R: Raining people with kindness

I: Including everyone

T: Try to be a better person

Y: Yearning for success

25. Nets and Prisms Post Test

Kia ora!

I’ve just finished my post-test on nets and prisms and got 75%. I’m really happy about that! It wasn’t perfect by any means not at all I made a lot of mistakes and rushed some parts but for now I’m content with it.

In class, we’ve been learning about nets, which are flat shapes that can be folded into 3D solids, and prisms, which are 3D shapes with two matching ends and flat faces. The test asked us to match nets with 3D shapes, name different types of prisms, and work out surface area using nets.

Some of the other questions were tricky though, especially the nets of triangular prisms. I was unsure when trying to imagine how they would fold. I also rushed a bit too much and made a couple of very small maths mistakes, which cost me some marks.

While I did not get everything exactly right, I am content with 75% because it shows that I am familiar with the majority of the topic. I know I can do better with more practice. I will start double-check my answers to avoid stupid mistakes.

Overall, this test helped me know what I can do and what I still need to work on. I’m proud of how hard I tried and excited to keep getting better.

Have you ever taken a test like this before? How did it go for you?

25. Emotions Publish

Kia ora

This week I worked on a project called emotions where we had 3 emotions and we had to write about what makes us that emotion and what we do when we feel that specific emotion. Those 3 emotions are anger, joy and sadness for me I get angry when my ideas just gets thrown out the window and get completely ignored when this happens I take a quick breath to try to calm myself down making sure that the situation doesn’t get worse. I feel happy when I get acknowledge and complimented which I think goes the same way for everybody else what I can do to make other people is talk to other people about their interests and making sure they stay intrigued.

The last emotion is sadness I feel sad when other people wont let me participate in things that I actually like and when they constantly push me away what I can do when I feel sadness is remind myself there are other people in worse situations than me and I cannot feel sadness knowing there are people actually depressed.

25. Personal Narrative and Pepeha

Kia Ora

For multiple weeks our class has been working on our personal narratives we had many weeks to plan this project out so I’m kind disappointed on me and my class for having multiple weeks and ended up with an average presentation you’d find in a dumpster in Vegas.  For this project we had any way to present our projects as long as it’s unique.  So I decided I was gonna do my project with cardboard and paint it the colour of my country Philippines.  We  also had to print out images for our personal narrative that can really tell the story about who we are. We also wrote about our pepeha and I  learnt a few things that I didn’t already know.
