25. Communication in Kiwi Can

Kia ora

This week for Kiwi Can we learn about why communication is important. Communication is important so we can know what other people are thinking so that we could work together and be more productive. Kiwi Can is a life program for kids to learn essential qualities you can use in life. Our country for this week of Kiwi can is Argentina, Argentina is a country originating from Spain then gained its own independence. The main language they use is Spanish which makes sense since they used to be just a small town in Spain. Some interesting facts in this country include that Messi a world cup winner plays for Argentina and that they have their own unique dance style called the tango which first originated in the streets of Argentina.

Our energiser for Kiwi Can is called hoop da hoop this game consists of any number of people in a circle with a hula hoop. The hoop goes between 2 peoples hands and people try to go through the hoop while making sure we don’t let go of peoples hands. Then the game we played is called sing it the game conductor would give us a topic of a song and we had to think of a song that met those requirements. What I liked about Kiwi Can is that they teach us instead of just letting us play games.

25. Term 1 Week 7 Technology Design & Visual Communication

Kia ora

This week for technology at DVC we had a boatload of tasks to do since we had to work with clay so much. But this specific week we didn’t work with clay we instead had to draw designs we wanted for our own key chains!  It was a hard decision for me to decide what im going to draw due to all my hobbies but I ultimately decided  on making a guitar key-chain specifically the Ephiphone Flying V Prophecy which is a black V shaped guitar. I drew many designs that even resembled a 60’s Les Paul but I only had the time to print 1 design out. After that we then got our key-chains and mine  turned out pretty good. That was all that we did in tech this week.

T1 Week 5 Kiwi Can

Kia ora

Hello this Friday Kiwi Can came! The reason why I’m excited about this is because this term Kiwi Can rarely comes to our school due to staff shortage.  Now enough about this it’s time to talk about what we actually learnt our country for this Kiwi Can session is China. We learnt facts about China 1 facts about this culturally unique country is the well known wonder of the world the Great Wall of China it is 1 of the biggest man made structure in history and is sometimes visible from space.

Our Kiwi Can topic for this week is communication one of the reasons of which communication is important is because without it the world would be in shambles there would be wars everywhere without it. We also play a game for our energiser which is named compliment circle.  We would get in circles for this and someone would stand up the person that stood up would then receive compliments until the whole circle gets compliments

Then the final game we played is tic tac toe or dots and crosses. There would be 3 people for each group when the game starts the 3 people from both groups would run to the spaces to try and get 3 connecting dots to win the game. That is all we did for Kiwi can this week.

25 T1 Week 3 Leadership publish

Kia ora

This week, we had the task of writing a report on how we want to be remembered in our school, and it really got me thinking about my legacy. I took this opportunity to reflect on how I would like to be seen and remembered, both by my peers and the younger students. In my report, I shared that I would love to be remembered as a bright, dedicated student who set a good example. My goal is for my presence at this school to inspire others, especially younger students, to aim high and believe in themselves. Even after I’ve moved on, I hope they will look back and think of me as someone who helped shape the school culture in a positive way.

The report also asked us to reflect on how we wanted people to perceive us in different terms—Term 1, Term 2, and Term 4. For Term 1, I wrote that I want the teachers to see me as a role model for the younger students. I hope to demonstrate good work ethic, respect, and kindness, and for the teachers to recognise me as someone who can be looked up to, even in the early stages of the school year. I want to set the tone for myself in a way that carries through the rest of the year. Overall, this assignment was an opportunity for me to think about the kind of person I want to be while I’m here and how I want to leave a positive impact on the school community. Here is my full work.

T1 Week 3 What my name means DLO

Kia ora

This week on Friday we were told to make little DLOs talking about the meanings of our names and where we get them from. It was a good activity that made me think about my name and what it means. Not only so, but our teacher urged everyone to pronounce their classmates’ names right, which I found really thoughtful in respecting and valuing the individual identity of everyone. And I keep learning the meanings of my name to discover some very interesting facts I did not know before about its literal meaning, which is actually ‘God is my fire’ or ‘God is my light.’ That was amazing. Never really thought about the deeper meaning behind it and found it nice knowing it had that kind of powerful meaning behind it.

All that I have learned in these few facts about my name has indeed raised my self-esteem and my uniqueness. It’s a source of pride in my name and makes me more embedded in it. This makes me realize that it is not just a regular old name; it has a lot of meaningful historical significance.

T1 Week 3 Treaty of Waitangi

Kia ora

This Week we learned about the treaty of Waitangi. Most people know of the holiday Waitangi day in NZ but a lot don’t know what the treaty of Waitangi is. The treaty of Waitangi is an agreement made between the British and the Maori people promising the Maori prosperity over their land. But that really wasn’t the case because there were 2 translations of the treaty the Maori translation and English translation with very different meanings.

The Maori translation as I said promised sovereignty to the Maori people giving them full authority over their land. Then there’s the English version that states that the British get full authority over the Maori land giving the full reign. The differences over the 2 treaties still causes problems today

25. T1 Technology-Papakura intermediate DVC 101

Kia ora

Kia or everyone welcome back to school! I sure hope you guys are excited for this new term because I sure am one of those reasons being tech.  This term for tech I was put into DVC  meaning design and visual communications so technically art. One of our activities had us work with clay so we could eventually do pottery. The DVC teacher cut us parts of clay which we made soft by sprinkling little amounts of water on it.

After the clay was soft enough we cut the piece of clay in half and rolled 2 smooth balls. When we had our 2 balls we flatted them making sure they are still thick enough for it to harden it had to be at least your finger nail thick otherwise it would be small and brittle. When all was done we moulded the clay into the shape we wanted using the equipment DVC gave us.  When everything was finished we put the clay away into a container and waited for it to harden so we could see our work next week. We then cleaned up cleaned the equipment and made sure the class was tidy. The DVC teacher then gave us the chance to play silent ball in the last remaining minutes of school time. That was all we did this tech class goodbye.

T4 Reading 2024 Week 9

Kia ora

This week we read about 2 books Henrietta and The promise. Henrietta is a book about a kid who doesn’t think that chickens were real pets until one of them eventually dies revealing how he truly feels. The promise is about a disaster a group of teens were trapped in a bunker and had to decide would they risk it or sty safe in the comfort of a bunker .Exploring different narratives is a powerful way to understand how characters face and resolve life-changing events. Recently, I compared two captivating stories: one about Joe, a young boy dealing with the death of a beloved chicken, and another featuring Zadie, whose group must decide whether to leave the safety of their bunker.

Joe’s story demonstrates personal growth through his compassionate response to Henrietta’s death, leading to an emotional and creative resolution. In contrast, Zadie’s narrative shows the dynamics of group decision-making and collective courage. Their choice to venture into the uncertain outside world ultimately brings hope and new beginnings.

Both stories reflect the various ways individuals and groups approach difficult decisions, emphasising themes of responsibility, empathy, and bravery. This comparative exercise not only highlights different narrative structures but also reveals deeper insights into human resilience and adaptation in the face of life-altering challenges.
